Hello

I’d like to welcome you to my first blog ever so please don’t over judge! All complaints are acceptable of course but they should be in relevance to my multimedia course. I’m only kidding I’m not that anal. Nonetheless welcome to what it seems as my virtual humble abode (I bet that’s how a modern Oscar Wilde would sound like!) Please take a seat (unless you would prefer to stand.. on your head or do your Pilates simultaneously) and if you’d like to learn about my discovery and experience of the virtual world I'll promise to keep you updated.

My name is Nadia Al-Dhahir (don’t bother to pronounce my second name, I can’t even do it) and I’m the late comer to my group, NAFA. So far I’ve tried my best to catch up with my very dedicated group who consist of Fahima, Natalie, Annalise and Amy by researching like crazy and nodding along a lot in lectures. So far there aren’t any clear roles in the group but we have decided to focus our project on virtual communities and in particular on the idea of the second life. By this I mean how people seem to lead a completely different or partially more confident and luxurious life on the net! I find this topic extremely relevant to the world we live in today, especially with the emergence of virtual communities like Myspace, Youtube, Facebook Bebo and etc. I’ve never been much of a virtual community fanatic and I’ve always seen websites such as these as representatives of something quite negative and somewhat lonely. Sometimes these developments in the World Wide Web seem to be giving way to a new era, I like to call it the lonely era. This is my first blog and I have only been to one multimedia lecture therefore I won’t be completely surprised if my perception of virtual communities changes within the progression of the module… watch this space!
