The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

As our group is in the process of designing and setting up our wiki page I’ve been trying to find some good and bad examples of websites. Although this is a task we’ve been set to do (I sometimes feel that not all tasks are as important as lecturers make them out to be) I find it’s a very good way of learning how to make our wiki page a user friendly and attractive place to visit.
I usually find most websites quite tricky to handle so it was difficult to choose; apart from the obvious really good high fashion websites like Prada, Gucci and the really bad ones that promote mobile phone deals.
Anyway I decided to focus on two lingerie websites as I usually buy my lingerie online.
I found two very interesting lingerie websites that I shall compare to you so that you never visit the bad one in the future (I’m kidding; I hope I don’t get sued for saying that).
I first visited Asos.com which is quite a popular female, all fashion labels and all sizes website. I did a search on all their lingerie and it was extremely straightforward to find and buy what I needed (wanted). First of all the colours of the website were all very neutral which made it easy on the eye if you were spending a long time choosing. The backdrop used for each model modelling the lingerie was white and there was a lot of light; this made the colours and textures of the garment materials very visible. You could also click on the garment that you prefer and then view the model wearing it from different angles and an optional zoom was available too.
What I also liked was that you could choose the brands and prices you wanted to view. This helped narrow down my search so that I wouldn’t waste my time on designs that didn’t interest me and prices that just made me feel down.

Ok so the next lingerie website was simplyyours.co.uk. Although it had more items on display than the previous website, simplyyours.co.uk was quite stressful to work with.
There weren’t any price, size or brand options that could narrow down my search so I was basically spending a lot of time looking at things that in the end were either unavailable in my size or too expensive. The background colour of the website was white so it seemed a bit strenuous because I did end up spending 32 minutes viewing everything. The worst aspect of the website was the way the garments were modelled. It seemed more like a photo shoot so there were a lot of dark and shaded areas which made it difficult to really understand anything about the real colours or shapes of the underwear. I tried to zoom in into the garments but they were still too small for me to decide whether I liked them or not. Also, unlike the Asos website, there was only one image of the models modelling the garments. I had no idea how they looked from the back, side or sometimes the straight front! I couldn’t understand why the creators of this website didn’t see all these obvious flaws. Perhaps they thought it looked more glamorous to have the models lit in such a way. I decided to visit a ‘glamorous’, well known, lingerie website that was way out of my league in terms of money. La Perla is an Italian lingerie brand known for its expensive yet highly glamorous underwear. They always advertise in high fashion magazines such as Vogue, Elle, and Australian Sassybella. Their website was tres sophisticated. I mean it really was all about buy me quick. It was all very glamorous but at the same time very clear. So here we had glamour and accessibility in one. It just shows, you can’t pretend with glamour, you have to breathe it.

Oh God how funny. You know I only said that so that I could get a reaction from you.
